ESB Athenry / Portumna Electricity Supply Project.

The broad yellow lines in the three photographs below show the route of the overhead cable system for the new high power electricity supply which is to be built soon (i.e. July or August 2001) in the East Galway area. The positions of the pylons are not shown, and although we are not sure about this, it is thought (?) that the Electricity Supply Board can position the pylons anywhere they choose along the yellow lines.

Photograph 1
Cable passing directly over an ancient monument?

The ancient monument (?) which appears in the above photograph is thought to be within four miles or so of the Knocknadala area referred to in the notes compiled by Research Scientist Dr. Kieran Jordan. (The placename Knocknadala means "Hill of Parliament".)

Photograph 2
Cable passing over a system of ancient monuments?

The circular ringfort (?) above appears to be surrounded by the remnants of other ancient monuments of some kind.

Photograph 3
Cable passing close to an important (perhaps royal) ringfort?

There is reason to believe that the more circles a ringfort has (please see above photograph), the more important it is: and the more important the people who used it were in the society of their time.
