RE: Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (Council of Europe)
Date: Thu, 23 Jun 2005 18:31:27 +0100 (BST) It is my understanding that Mr Gerard Madden (Senior Social Worker with the Omagh Community Mental Health Team) has arranged a meeting with you for 2.30 pm on Thursday June 30th 2005. Both he and I plan to attend the meeting on June 30th. I also intend to take copies of the five most recent items of written correspondence connected with my case to the meeting on June 30th, in the hope that it will be possible to briefly discuss a number of the more important points they contain. A list of the five items of correspondence is provided below, and the texts can be viewed via the associated Internet links placed close by. Basically, and despite the fact that I have been charged with a criminal offence in the Republic of Ireland, and that there is an associated extant warrant for my arrest (issued in October 2002), I have not, so far, been able to find a lawyer who will help me to prepare my defence. As my case involves human rights issues, myself and Gerard Madden have very briefly discussed Article 6.3.b and Article 6.3.c of the "Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms" (Council of Europe). As you will know, they read as follows: "... b) to have adequate time and facilities for the preparation of his defence; c) to defend himself in person or through legal assistance of his own choosing or, if he has not sufficient means to pay for legal assistance, to be given it free when the interests of justice so require; ... " ( Text in quotes taken from http://conventions.coe.int/treaty/en/Treaties/Html/005.htm ) I look forward to meeting you on June 30th. William Finnerty. +++++++++++++++++ List of five letters referred to above in third paragraph: 1) Letter to EU Commission President Barroso dated April
27th 2005: 2) Reminder letter dated May 31st 2005 to President
Barrosso: 3) Letter dated June 1st 2005 from Gerard
Madden (Social Worker) to Fair & Murtagh (law firm): 4) Reply from Fair & Murtagh to Gerard Madden dated June
14th 2005: 5) E-mail dated June 20th 2005 from William Finnerty to
