GRECOby W. Finnerty. Fri Sep 22, 2006
09:09 Information was sent by me yesterday
to GRECO, on account of the fact that senior public officials in the Republic of
Ireland appear to me to be collectively behaving in an extremely corrupt manner
regarding Bunreacht na hEireann (the Constitution of the Republic of Ireland).
In my view, those involved include President Mary McAleese, the so called
"Guardian" of the Constitution.
As some will know, the word GRECO
represents "Group of States Against Corruption", and it comes under the Council
of Europe - which is also responsible for the running of the European Court of
Human Rights (in Strasbourg).
The GRECO division of the Council of
Europe has in fact already produced at least one report on corruption in the
Republic of Ireland. It is dated December 12th 2003, and it can be viewed (PDF
format) at the following address:
http://www.coe.int/t/dg1/greco/evaluations/round1/GrecoRC1(2003)14_Ireland_EN.pdf Among
several recommendations made in the above mentioned GRECO report is one for
civil servants in the Republic of Ireland to report cases of corruption they
discover in the course of their work to the authorities in charge of detecting,
investigating and prosecuting corruption offences.
The
information sent by me to GRECO yesterday was also copied to several senior
public officials, as well as to a number of people who are know to be lawyers:
including the Chief Justice of the Republic of Ireland The Hon. Mr. Justice John
L Murray SC.
