"The following four pieces of text have been copied from an
article titled "Open Letter to Judge Miriam Malone, President of the District
Court", which appeared on Indymedia (Ireland) on September 15th
2007: "I (Ms Shauna Gillan) am an Irish barrister currently practicing in London." "I was dismayed to learn that Judge Devins is the wife of a Sligo TD (Member of Parliament) Dr Jimmy Devins (Government Minister) of Fianna Fáil (Main Government Party), the party who made the original deal with Shell and who have a clear continuing interest in protecting the Shell Corporation. A protest against the Government’s contract with Shell is by nature a protest against government policy: a policy which Judge Devins’ husband (at least) supports." "Her treatment of Mr Reilly (defence lawyer) was extremely discourteous." "I learn from today’s Irish Times (i.e. September 15th 2005) that Judge Devins has again refused to disqualify herself from another case involving protesters." |
